IELTS common mistakes
- Firstly, Time Management in Reading test. Don’t give a deep reading but try to understand through skimming and scanning for specific information.
- Instructions should be read carefully and the answers should be prepared accordingly.
- Keep an eye on the word limit for both the tasks in Writing Module.
- Maintain a standard pronunciation although accent is not taken into account for speaking and give correct stress and intonation to carry the meaning better.
- In speaking, do not give prepared speech or talk about a different topic
- Always speak directly to the examiner. Establish eye contact.
- Whenever you give ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the questions, try to add more details.
- Answer relevantly to the given topic for writing.
- Avoid long essays and maintain a good quality of the argument, evidence and language.
- Do not memorize your essays. Try to produce your ideas originally.
- You are not valued on your opinions (whether positive or negative) but express yourself spontaneously and maintain accuracy.
- Limit your connecting words in your essay or else it will lead to confusion in your essay and you will lose the original essence of your writing.
- Keep listening until the recording stops.
- Use the pauses between the sections to prepare for the next set of questions.
- Last but not the least a student must be familiar with the test modules viz structure and procedure of the test.
