The
UK government operates a programme to allow
individuals to seek entry to work in the
United Kingdom through the Highly Skilled
Migrant Programme (HSMP). The programme
aims to provide an individual route for
highly skilled people who have the skills
and experience required by the United Kingdom
to compete in the global economy.
How the programme
helps?
HSMP is the solution to the Catch 22 situation
of skilled people needing a permit for an
employer to hire them but needing an employer
to get them that permit.
Under this scheme, an individual is permitted
to take employment, consult or establish
business in UK. There is more flexibility
in employment in the UK because you do not
need permission to enter into or change
employment under the scheme.
A Highly Skilled Migrant will be eligible
for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in
the UK after four years, and any time spent
under the work permit scheme will amalgamate
with the time under the HSMP, to qualify
you after four years.
Eligibility Criteria's
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme is
a points based system now in its second
year. There are 6 areas where points can
be gained and you must get a minimum of
65 points to be considered. The HSMP permit
means you can come to the UK to look for
work or work in UK instead of needing an
employer to sponsor you first. HSMP applications
points and assesment is based on the following:
- Your age
- Your spouse degree
and qualifications
- Your education
level
- Your earnings
in the past 12 months (if you are a student
the last 12 months earnings before the
period of your study)
- Your work experience
- Significant achievement
in your field of interest
