UK
institutions offer an enormous variety of
postgraduate certificates, diplomas and
Master's degrees.
These courses are generally more specialised
than degree courses, and focus on particular
elements of an academic discipline, or on
professional subject. Applicants generally
need a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
to enter Master's programmes.
Courses
leading to MA, MSc, and equivalent qualifications
usually take one or two years of full-time
study to complete, but the length and assessment
methods vary greatly between courses. Some
courses last a normal academic year while
others have an academic year of tuition
followed by a work placement for several
weeks, or may last two academic years, full-time.
Other programmes can be studied part-time,
often while students have jobs related to
their area of study.

professional equivalent. For example,
you would be expected to have a first
degree in Physics before taking an
MSc in Physics. However, there are
some exceptions to this, where graduates
in any discipline are accepted and
no prior specialist knowledge of the
subject is assumed.
