Welsh university offers two new courses in music engineering and film production.
``IF I had to describe Glamorgan in three words I would say — dynamic, friendly and modern," said international officer Claire Hobbs from the Welsh University who visited India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to meet prospective students.
This university, two hours from London, has 200 part-time and full-time courses from foundation studies to Ph.Ds.
Ms. Hobbs was meeting aspirants at Campus UK, Chennai. In an interview to Education Plus, she highlighted the two new Master's courses offered by the University — music engineering and production and film production and business management.
The former course is a 12-month programme for graduates wishing to explore music engineering and develop a career as a professional producer in the music industry. Students will study acoustics, examine the technical and creative aspects of post-production, study recording and editing. They will also be expected to perform an advanced research project.
The course on film production has modules such as Film Copyright, Intellectual Property Rights, Film Financing, Film Producing and Post-production, Entrepreneurial Strategies, Business Planning and Research Methods. According to the website, the career prospects are bright what with the Film Academy working in association with Dragon International Studios, a $180 million film studio complex, similar in size and ambition to Hollywood which is scheduled to open in 2006.
International students applying for a postgraduate course can be awarded scholarships worth £2,000 she said.
"The average tuition fee is around £9,000. The cost of living, including accommodation comes up to about £5,500 in Wales, which is lower than anywhere in the U.K.," she added.
``The criterion for selecting a student for a scholarship depends on the candidate's standard of English, the personal statement and work experience." She also said that Glamorgan, a top-rated Welsh university that has won several teacher excellence awards, does not offer any full scholarships.
